Kansas vs. UConn prediction and preview. Who’s Got Next analyzes the NCAA Tournament’s second round matchup between the Jayhawks and Huskies.
Kansas beat No. 16 Austin Peay 105-79; Connecticut beat No. 8 Colorado 74-67
Kansas’ talent and balance is the key to everything for the Jayhawks. Deonte Graham, Wayne Selden Jr. and Frank Mason III can all torch teams from the perimeter or going to the basket, and forward Perry Ellis is an enforcer in the paint who also can score with his back to the bucket. Kansas always plays hard, and the Jayhawks’ defense can shut teams down. Kansas’ focus and poise helps it avoid mistakes.
UConn has a fun habit of coming alive in March, and the Huskies appear to be doing exactly that right now. Head coach Kevin Ollie’s three-guard lineup of Daniel Hamilton, Sterling Gibbs and Rodney Purvis were fantastic in the first round, combining for 38 points and 17 rebounds, but UConn needs some of their bigs to step up vs. KU. Forwards Shonn Miller and Phillip Nolan need to make an impact, as does Amida Brimah off the bench, if the Huskies are going to get to the Sweet 16. Limiting turnovers will be key.
UConn has been on a nice run, but it will end in the second round. Kansas’ ability to come at teams in waves and superior skill in the paint will keep the Huskies from going on a run, and the athleticism of KU’s guards will frustrate UConn’s backcourt all night.
Kansas vs. UConn Final Score Prediction: Kansas 83, Connecticut 75
