There’s no time like the present, and David Beaty isn’t wasting any time when it comes to building the 2018 recruiting class for the Jayhawks.
On Saturday, Kansas landed six commitments within 24 hours, and five of them are prospects out of Louisiana.
Four-star wide receiver Devonta Jason and 4-star cornerback Corione Harris are both from Landry-Walker High School in New Orleans. Four-star wide receiver JaMarr Chase and 3-star safety Aaron Blue are both from Archbishop Rummel in Metairie. And 3-star running back Anthony Williams is from Hahnville High School in Boutte, which wrapped up the Louisiana commits Beaty’s staff picked up.
The sixth member of that group of recruits who chose to be Jayhawks is 3-star quarterback Clayton Tune, from Carrollton, Texas.
Now, the Jayhawks currently have the No. 9 spot in the 2018 recruiting class rankings, two spots ahead of Oklahoma.
In the 2017 class that wrapped up on Wednesday with National Signing Day, Kansas signed four recruits out of the Lone Star State. And only two of those 21 players in the class were from Louisiana.
Clearly, the Jayhawks are shifting their focus when it comes to recruiting pipelines, and there may be some more commitments looming.
Kansas is still pursuing a number of prospects in both states, including 4-star wide receiver Lawrence Keys III and 3-star wide receiver Yo’Heinz Tyler. Both are from New Orleans.
