J.T. Barrett Will Start Against Illinois If The Week Goes Well

J.T. Barrett will get the start at quarterback against Illinois if he has a good week of practice, according to Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer.

    November 9, 2015

Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes recorded their 22nd straight win on Saturday. This one came against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, playing in their second game since head coach Jerry Kill’s sudden retirement.

The Buckeyes won despite the absence of starting quarterback J.T. Barrett, who was suspended for the game because of his arrest for operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

Barrett had just won the job back from Cardale Jones before the arrest and suspension, but that opened the door back up for Jones, who improved to 11-0 as a starting quarterback for the Buckeyes.

On Monday, though, Meyer made it clear the starting role is once again Barrett’s for the taking.

“If J.T. has a good week in practice, he’ll get the start against Illinois,” Meyer said.

While Jones has been perfect as Ohio State’s starter, the team appears to function better under Barrett’s direction.

Meyer calls the decision to go back to Barrett “the right thing at this time.”

Ohio State will hit the road to face Illinois in Champaign on Satuday. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. CT.
