March 11, 2017Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has become the first player in Buckeye history to be named a team captain for three seasons.
In the long illustrious history of the Ohio State football program, no player has ever served as a team captain for three seasons … until now.
Quarterback J.T. Barrett will be the first Buckeye to have the honor that not even Archie Griffin, Eddie George, or any other great before him had bestowed on him.
Barrett will enter his senior season as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy after a 2016 campaign that saw him throw for 2,555 yards and 24 touchdowns, compared to only seven interceptions, while completing 61.5% of his pass attempts.
During his time in Columbus, Barrett has gone from the starter in 2014, throwing for 2,834 yards and 34 touchdowns before suffering a broken ankle in the regular season finale against Michigan, after filling in for former starter Braxton Miller, who missed the entire season, to sharing snaps with Cardale Jones in 2015.
Once Jones left after the 2015 season, the job was left wholly to Barrett, who would go onto being named First Team All-Big Ten by both the media and coaches. He also earned those honors in 2014.
