Five-star wide receiver Joseph Lewis committed to the USC Trojans, as Clay Helton was able to convince the nation’s No. 24 overall player to stay close to home.

As Trojans fans say goodbye to one highly-touted wide receiver in JuJu Smith-Schuster, they can say hello to another. Five-star prospect Joseph Lewis committed to USC on National Signing Day.

The Trojans beat out the Arizona State Sun Devils, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Oregon Ducks for the Los Angeles native. However, it was Mike Riley’s team that came the closest to beating out Helton’s staff.

Lewis is ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 24 overall player in the country.

At 6-foot-3, 200 lbs he’s capable of stretching the field vertically and is the kind of playmaking receiver you look to for big plays and in 3rd-and-long situations. His ability to sky for the ball, attack it at its highest point and control his body will allow him to make some acrobatic catches, which will drop the jaws of the USC faithful.

After picking up 5-star receivers Jack Jones, Michael Pittman and Tyler Vaughns in the the 2016 class, adding Lewis to the Trojans in this cycle will enrich an already stacked wide receivers corps.

Sam Darnold will have plenty of young, talented weapons to dissect opposing defenses with next season. And it won’t be long before Lewis finds himself making big plays in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
