Class of 2017 recruit Jordan Pouncey has made a decision on where he will play his college football.

The 3-star wide receiver decided to commit to Texas and first-year Longhorns head coach Tom Herman on National Signing Day.

The 6-foot-3, 186-pound former Notre Dame pledge chose the Longhorns over the Fighting Irish, Miami and Tennessee. It was a nice addition to the class after the ‘Horns were spurned by top targets K’Lavon Chaisson and Stephan Zabie on Signing Day.

Pouncey, who is a second cousin of former Florida offensive line standouts Maurkice and Mike Pouncey, grew up a Texas fan and must have been impressed with the program on his Jan. 20 official visit. Herman and Co. were late in the mix on Pouncey after targets such as Charleston Rambo and CeeDee Lamb were destined for Oklahoma and Mannie Netherly pledged to LSU. The ‘Horns made him a priority following his Dec. 20 offer.

In 33 games for Winter Park (FL), Pouncey complied 2,343 all-purpose yards. Listed by some services as an athlete, Pouncey was recruited by most—including Texas—as a wide receiver.

The receiving corps in Austin is young, but it’s deep. So we’ll see if Pouncey will redshirt or get the opportunity to compete from day one. Four-star pledge Damion Miller is Texas’ only wide receiver in this cycle.

Pouncey has good size for the position as well as nice acceleration and burst. But he does need to work on his route-running.
