Four-star offensive guard John Dirksen committed to Notre Dame on Saturday night, giving the Fighting Irish 12 total commits in the 2018 recruiting class.

An unofficial visit to South Bend this past weekend was enough to seal the deal in the mind of 4-star prospect John Dirksen, who committed to Notre Dame on Saturday, as first reported by 247Sports.

Dirksen, who’s from Maria Stein, OH, is ranked as the No. 9 offensive guard and No. 190 overall player in the country.

The addition of his pledge gives the Fighting Irish 12 total commits in the cycle and moved Notre Dame up from No. 3 to No. 1 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings.

At 6-foot-5, 275 lbs., Dirksen has quick feet off the line and can carry a mean streak with him when he steps out onto the field. He’s seen time at both guard and right tackle, which bodes well for Notre Dame, as versatility is always important — especially in the trenches.

Dirksen will often stand too high out of his three-point stance, though, which he’ll have to work on. He’s a solid run blocker as it is now, as he does a great job of getting his hands inside and driving through his blocking assignments. However, if he can keep his numbers to the sky and get underneath the pads of defensive linemen, he can be much more effective.
