FSU brought back Dameyune Craig to its coaching staff. And head coach Jimbo Fisher couldn’t be happier.

The addition of Dameyune Craig to Florida State’s coaching staff was a nice boost for the Seminoles as they began spring practice on Monday.

Craig is returning to Tallahassee as a quality control coach/offensive analyst after being dismissed from LSU following National Signing Day after spending one year with the Tigers as their receivers coach. He was unable to land the offensive coordinator job that he was reportedly coveting this offseason, but he does get to return to a familiar spot.

The former Auburn signal-caller returns to a school where he served as QBs coach from 2010-12, and he played a big role in recruiting future Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston to Tallahassee. Craig played quarterback at Auburn from 1994-97 when Fisher was the position coach, so the familiarity helped Craig when he was deciding his next career move.

Craig left FSU for a co-OC/receivers coach position back on The Plains from 2013-15 before joining LSU.

“He was a great quarterback coach. He can coach any skill position, and knows the blocking schemes,” Fisher said of Craig. “He’s a very good football coach and a very knowledgeable guy.

“He’s another set of eyes of how I like to do things, growing up in the system his whole life,” Fisher said. “It’s huge getting him back.”

The Seminoles enjoyed even more good news on the opening day of camp, when Fisher announced that star safety Derwin James is 100 percent and a full-go for drills. James is one of the best all-around defenders in the nation.

However, the ‘Noles did announce some bad news as well. It was revealed that cornerback Tarvarus McFadden will miss the entirety of spring practice following January surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The junior tied for the FBS lead in interceptions last season with eight.
