Jim McElwain Set To Visit Jacob Eason

Jim McElwain will visit Jacob Eason, as the pro-style quarterback is high on Florida's list of recruiting targets.

    December 10, 2015

Jim McElwain will visit five-star quarterback Jacob Eason, who is deciding between Florida and Georgia.

Jim McElwain has Jacob Eason high on his list of priorities, and quite frankly, that’s the way it should be.

Eason is the No.1-rated pro-style quarterback and No. 2-overall recruit in the 247Sports rankings.

The Lake Stevens, Wash. quarterback visited Florida last week and seemed to enjoy it. One report claimed Eason tipped off some Gators players about his intention to flip his commitment from Georgia to Florida.

He’s been committed to the Bulldogs since July of 2014, but the firing of Mark Richt shook things up. Eason’s high school coach, Tom Tri, believes the five-star recruit will stay true to Georgia.

Eason got a visit from Kirby Smart earlier this week after the former Alabama defensive coordinator was introduced as Georgia’s new head football coach.

Now, it’s Florida’s turn. McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier are set to visit Eason Thursday, according to 247Sports’ Luke Stampini. The visit will come at the last second as Eason is planning on making a decision after his official visit to Athens, Ga. this weekend. He’ll also be enrolling early instead of waiting until National Signing Day.

The Gators have two quarterbacks committed in their 2016 class: three-star Kyle Trask, from Manvel, Texas, and four-star Feleipe Franks, from Crawfordville, Fla.

With Will Grier suspended for the first six weeks of next season and the struggles of Treon Harris, Eason would have an opportunity to play early next season.

That should be something McElwain reinforces when he re-connects with the highly-touted signal caller.
