Three-star safety Jhevon Hill committed to UCLA on Wednesday, giving the Bruins their first commit of the 2018 recruiting class.

Jim Mora’s staff has secured its first pledge of the 2018 recruiting class.

On Wednesday, 3-star safety Jhevon Hill committed to UCLA despite holding additional offers from Cal, New Mexico, Utah and Washington State.

The San Bernardino, California native released a statement regarding his decision to give the Bruins his commitment.

“First and foremost, I would like to give thanks to God, my family, coaches, friends and the Ground Zero organization for believing in me and guiding me while on his journey. I would like to give a special thanks to my parents. Without them, half of this stuff wouldn’t have been able to happen, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. I’d like to thank all of the coaches and programs that offered and recruited me. With that being said, I would like to thank Coach [Demetrice Martin] and the entire UCLA coaching staff for making me feel welcomed. After discussing this big decision with my family, I am all in and happy to join my Ground Zero brothers as a Bruin. Therefore, I’ve decided to commit to my childhood dream school, which is the University of California Los Angeles!”

The addition of Hill as UCLA’s first commit in the cycle comes almost a month after Mora’s staff offered him a scholarship.

At 6-foot-3, 185 lbs Hill plays center field well as a single-high safety, as he has ballhawk abilities. He’s solid in bump-and-run coverage when asked to play press man coverage, and he’ll bring a physical presence to the UCLA secondary.
