Four-star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is reportedly planning an official visit to the Florida Gators despite his Alabama commitment.

Jim McElwain learned a lot from Nick Saban when he coached under him in Tuscaloosa. Now, the Gators’ head coach is trying to outdo his former boss on the recruiting trail.

Four-star prospect Jerry Jeudy is planning an official visit to Florida despite his commitment to Alabama, according to his head coach at Deerfield High School, Jevon Glenn.

“[Jeudy] says that he’s still interested in Florida. They’ve done a good job of recruiting him,” Glenn told Gator Country. “They were making up a lot of ground on him before he committed, and it shows a lot that they’re continuing to recruit him. They’ve continued to make up ground, and they’ve made an impression on him.”

In particular, Florida wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon has made a big impression on the nation’s No. 9 wide receiver and No. 64 overall player in the 2017 class. Dixon has tried to sell Jeudy on the potential for early playing time.

“Dixon has been telling him that he can come in and contribute right away,” Glenn said. “He says that they really don’t have any receivers like him on the team. Florida is high on him, and they’ve let him know that they’re going to recruit him until the end.”

The Gators signed 4-star wide receivers Joshua Hammond, Freddie Swain and Tyrie Cleveland in the 2016 recruiting cycle, and all three have seen reps for Florida. They’ve combined for 23 receptions 341 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Florida’s star receiver, Antonio Callaway, will be a junior next season and could potentially move on to the NFL rather than staying in Gainesville for a senior campaign. Callaway’s early departure would open the need for a go-to, true X receiver for Florida, and Jeudy would fit the bill.

An official visit for Jeudy will likely come in December. The last time he made the trip to Gainesville was for an unofficial visit on July 22 for Florida’s Friday Night Lights recruiting camp.

Glenn also confirmed Alabama will get an official visit and threw out the potential for an official visit to Georgia, although the Gators and Crimson Tide are the only ones confirmed for the 4-star receiver.

Jeudy will be enrolling early in January, so a decision should come soon. However, the potential for Jeudy to flip to Florida doesn’t appear likely, as Campus Insiders learned from SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner, who covers Alabama football and recruiting.

“It’s not happening,” Kirschner said of a potential flip. “One of the main reasons why he committed to Alabama was because of his relationship with Calvin Ridley. Jeudy has told me that he wants to reunite with his former teammate and good friend at Alabama with the hopes of learning everything he can before Ridley goes to the NFL.”
