The recruitment for the nation’s No. 12 overall player has come to an end.
On Saturday, at the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, 5-star prospect Jeffrey Okudah committed to Ohio State. The Buckeyes now have 18 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class and moved up from No. 5 to No. 4 the recruiting class rankings, jumping Oklahoma in the process. The Buckeyes now have seven 5-star commits, the most in the country.
Okudah, who’s ranked as the No. 1 athlete in the country, chose Ohio State over Florida State and Oklahoma while holding additional offers from Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan and a few other Power Five programs.
At 6-foot-1, 190 lbs., Okudah will likely make the full-time switch to defensive back at the next level. And you could save time by listing the things Okudah can’t do rather than what he can do, as he’s a versatile, all-around player. He plays both cornerback and safety as though he were born to do it, instinctively flying around the field.
Okudah shows great ball skills and tracks it well out of the quarterback’s hand. He closes in on routes in a hurry and consistently wraps up and drives the ball carrier into the ground. When he is playing man coverage, he wins one-on-one battles at the line with his ability to jam and disrupt the timing of his man’s route.
Early reps for Okudah would be smart, as he’s a natural playmaker and will fit right in with Urban Meyer’s team.
