Jeffery Simmons has been arrested and charged for "simple assault" and "disturbing the peace" after a video of him hitting a woman surfaced.
March 28, 2016Police have decided to arrest and charge Mississippi State signee Jeffery Simmons after he was caught on video hitting a woman.
Two days after Jeffery Simmons released an apology on Facebook for hitting a woman, police decided to arrest and charge the Mississippi State signee. According to Sarah Fowler of The Clarion-Ledger, police have charged Simmons with a misdemeanor for disturbing the peace.
Simmons, a highly-touted 5-star prospect from Macon, Miss., took full responsibility for his actions that were caught on camera. He’ll now have to deal with the legal consequences, and work on rebuilding his image.
Simmons was the prized recruit in the Bulldogs’ 2016 class. Scout.com ranked him as the nation’s No. 10 overall prospect, and the No. 2 defensive end in the country.
“We are aware of the situation,” Mississippi State spokesperson Sid Salter stated. “As more details become available, we will continue to evaluate the situation.”
UPDATE – 3/28/16, 3:45 p.m. – Simmons has also been charged with a misdemanor of simple assault, according to The Clarion-Ledger.
