February 6, 2017The Miami Hurricanes locked down a commitment from four-star wide receiver Jeff Thomas. Mark Richt and Co. landed an elite playmaker from Illinois.
Class of 2017 recruit Jeff Thomas is taking his speed and game-breaking ability to the Sunshine State.
The 5-foot-10, 167-pound wide receiver, who set the Under Armour All-America Game record for receiving yards with 123 and became the first player in the game’s history with two touchdown catches, will play college football for Mark Richt at Miami.
The East St. Louis (IL) 4-star product is one of the best receivers in this class and held offers from several powers, including Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and Michigan. But the Under Armour All-American game MVP took just one official visit. And that was to Miami, which needs help at the receiver position after losing Stacy Coley.
Thomas, who is explosive with great cutting ability, can score from anywhere on the field and is the kind of elite playmaker that Richt needed to help make the Hurricanes an ACC power, especially when programs such as Clemson and Florida State continue to bring in elite players at each position.
The Illinois resident, who had developed a strong relationship with Fighting Illini head coach Lovie Smith, is able to create a lot of separation and can not only be a deep threat but someone who can take a short pass and take it to the house. As a bonus, he is also an excellent return man.
