January 18, 2017Four-star wide receiver Jamire Calvin decommitted from Oregon State on Tuesday night, leaving the Beavers with 18 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.
Gary Andersen’s staff hit it big on Jan. 7 when 4-star prospect Jamire Calvin chose the Beavers at the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Less than two weeks later, however, the nation’s No. 33 wide receiver has decided to re-evaluate his decision.
On Tuesday night, Calvin, who’s also ranked as the No. 231 overall player in the country, decommitted from Oregon State. Now, the Beavers are left with 18 total commits in the cycle and sit at No. 51 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
Calvin, a Los Angeles native, released a statement regarding his decision to back off his pledge.
“I’ve decided to re-open my recruitment. [I] have to make sure I am making the best decision for my future.”
It now appears Nebraska is the frontrunner to land Calvin, which would add yet another talented wide receiver to the Cornhuskers’ class should he end up in Lincoln.
On Saturday, Nebraska landed 4-star prospect Tyjon Lindsey, the No. 6 receiver and No. 47 overall player in the nation. Lindsey chose to play for Mike Riley only three days after decommitting from Ohio State.
With Lindsey, and potentially Calvin, the Cornhuskers would strengthen a developing pipeline to California. Lindsey is originally from Poway, California. And Nebraska also has pledges from Calabasas, California prospects Keyshawn Johnson (4-star receiver) and Tristan Gebbia (4-star quarterback).
They would all form a promising core for a future passing attack.
