Five-star running back James Cook is committed to Florida State but is still heavily considering other schools like Florida, Georgia and USC.
February 27, 2017A James Cook recruiting update as of February 27 finds the 5-star running back committed to Florida State, but still heavily considering other schools like Florida, Georgia and USC.
With his older brother, Dalvin Cook, set to compete at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine this week, 5-star prospect James Cook is still trying to get a clearer picture of his college recruitment.
Despite the fact he’s been committed to Florida State since March 11, Cook’s name has been mentioned multiple times as a recruit to keep an eye on for a potential flip.
The No. 4 running back and No. 25 overall player in the CI 25 player rankings told ESPN he’s “70-80 percent” committed to FSU at the moment, and he’s still interested in the rival Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs. USC is also in the mix for Cook, as his cousin, Jamel Cook, signed with the Trojans out of the 2016 recruiting class.
Cook was one of the first prospects to receive a call from new Florida running backs coach JaJuan Seider earlier this month, and the Gators can certainly offer more early reps than the Seminoles can after Jimbo Fisher’s team signed three blue-chip running backs in the 2017 cycle: Cam Akers, Khalan Laborn and Zaquandre White.
Georiga can offer playing time as well with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel on the way out, but the Bulldogs are also targeting 5-star tailback Zamir White, whose mother is high on Kirby Smart’s team.
Florida, Georgia, Oregon and USC are all teams expected to receive official visits from Cook this upcoming season.
