February 13, 2017Three-star wide receiver JaMarr Chase decommitted from Kansas on Sunday, leaving the Jayhawks with seven total commits in the 2018 recruiting class.
David Beaty’s Jayhawks have been riding a wave of positivity on the recruiting trail over the past two weeks, but there was no way it could have lasted forever.
On Sunday, 3-star prospect JaMarr Chase decommitted from Kansas. The Metairie, Louisiana native was one of six Pelican State natives to give his verbal pledge to the Jayhawks in the last couple of weeks. Kansas now has seven total commits and dropped to No. 12 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings.
He released a statement regarding his decision to back off that commitment to Beaty and his staff.
“After having a lengthy discussion with my parents, I realized that I can’t make a rational decision when my emotions are involved. Making a decision about my future needs to be a family decision, and I have to make sure that my family is on the same page. This has nothing to do with Kansas or the coaches at Kansas. It’s a great place, and they’re doing great things. With that being said, I’m announcing my decommitment from [the] Kansas Jayhawks.”
At 6-foot, 193 lbs Chase has many of the tools it takes to be a quality slot receiver. He’s strong and has reliable hands. He can concentrate and make the catch in traffic. And when he does get the ball, he’s difficult to bring down due to his elusiveness after the catch.
Chase holds additional offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Cincinnati, Florida, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, TCU and Tennessee, among others.
