Will Muschamp has an uphill climb in Columbia, S.C. With Clemson peaking under the watch of Dabo Swinney, it’s imperative for South Carolina hit the recruiting trail relentlessly.

So far, Muschamp is doing just that, as evidenced by four-star quarterback Jake Bentley committing to South Carolina.

The Opelika, Ala. native is the second 4-star quarterback commit to the Gamecocks since Muschamp took the job in mid-December — joining Brandon McIlwain from the 2016 class.

Bentley announced his commitment in tweet on Thursday morning.

Of course, it helps South Carolina to have an ace up its sleeve. After he took the job, Muschamp added Bobby Bentley — Jake’s father — to serve as the Gamecocks’ running backs coach.

Connecting the dots, the decision to commit to South Carolina appears less about playing for Muschamp and more about playing for his father. Yeah, that seems like a no-brainer for the nation’s No. 9 quarterback for 2017.

The Gamecocks have the No. 32 class in the 2017 rankings.
