Now that the 2017 recruiting cycle has wrapped up, the focus will shift toward the 2018 recruiting class. And one of its top blue-chip prospects is ready to make his decision.
Four-star recruit Jaiden Woodbey will announce his college commitment on Monday night at 5 p.m. PT. The Upland, California native is ranked as the No. 2 safety and No. 35 overall player in the country. He attends St. John Bosco and is a former teammate of Ohio State signee Wyatt Davis, a 5-star offensive guard.
The Buckeyes are in on Woodbey’s recruitment, too, as the 4-star prospect took an unofficial visit to Columbus two weekends ago before National Signing Day. However, they aren’t alone.
USC, who’s coming off its own big recruiting haul with 4-star safeties Bubba Bolden and Isaiah Pola-Mao headlining the class, is also trying to snag a commitment from Woodbey to get the 2018 cycle going for the Trojans.
Aside from Ohio State and USC, the only other teams left contending for his pledge are Nebraska and Oklahoma. However, the Buckeyes and Trojans are believed to be the frontrunners.
Of course, in the days leading up to his commitment, Woodbey tweeted, “I’m ’bout to shock the world soon believe that.” So, it may not be as simple as we believe it is. If Woodbey intends to shock the world, choosing the Cornhuskers or Sooners would certainly accomplish that.
Oklahoma was the most recent of his final four teams to extend an offer to Woodbey. Bob Stoops’ staff put a scholarship on the table on Jan. 18. The other three offered him before the New Year.
