Stop it. Stop questioning Kirby Smart. He has a plan.
If you don’t believe it, take a look at what the Bulldogs pulled off on Thursday. In a video through Dawg Nation, 4-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood committed to Georgia over Alabama, Ohio State and Tennessee.
Aside from the fact Smart’s staff beat out Nick Saban (his former boss), Urban Meyer (the second-best coach in college football), and an SEC East rival for a 6-foot-3, 195-pound wide receiver, how about the fact that Haselwood isn’t even the first player to commit to Georgia’s 2019 recruiting class. No, he’s the fourth. The 2017 recruiting cycle wrapped up a month ago, and the Bulldogs already have four total commits for the 2019 cycle.
Insane.
The Ellenwood, Georgia native joins defensive end Nolan Smith, offensive tackle Luke Griffin and defensive tackle Rashad Cheney. The latter two are from Chatsworth, Georgia and Atlanta, Georgia, respectively.
We were told UGA was going to shut down the borders of the Peach State, and Smart is doing it. Not only is he keeping Georgia’s top recruits in state, but he’s reaching into future classes while still balancing the current class. The Bulldogs finished with the No. 2 class in the 2017 cycle and are currently ranked No. 13 with three total commits in the 2018 class.
But enough about UGA. Let’s take a look at its new commit.
Haselwood has elite size for a wide receiver, and he’s only 15 years old. He plays safety and is very physical, but his future is as a receiver.
The 4-star prospect does an excellent job of high-pointing the football, and he’s shifty in traffic. The former, when combined with his frame, makes him a go-to target in the red zone, but the latter will give the Bulldogs the option of getting him the ball on the perimeter and letting him make something out of nothing.
Providing he sticks with his Georgia pledge, Haselwood can evolve into a legitimate target for Jake Fromm, who will eventually take the reins from Jacob Eason.
