Talk about a huge momentum builder with National Signing Day right around the corner.
Ed Orgeron’s staff needed to add at least one linebacker to its class, and it got him.
On Thursday, 4-star recruit Jacob Phillips flipped his commitment from Oklahoma to LSU. Ranked as the No. 5 inside linebacker and No. 91 overall player in the country, Phillips originally committed to the Sooners on Oct. 12. However, after an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge last week, there was some talk about a potential flip to the Tigers.
The Nashville native released a statement regarding his decision to flip his pledge from Oklahoma to LSU.
“This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever made in my life. i would like to truly thank the University of Oklahoma, the team, the coaches, the fans and Coach Kish. All of you have given me a lot of support, and I am very thankful for that. My family and I have prayed long and hard about what is best for my future, and, at this point, I have decided to decommit from Oklahoma and commit to LSU. I feel this is in the best interest of my family and myself, and I ask you to respect this. Thank you again and God bless.”
Again, it’s a huge addition for the Tigers. They now have 21 total commits and move up from No. 8 to No. 6 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings. The Sooners, on the other hand, are left with 24 total commits and have fallen from No. 4 to No. 5.
