The race for Jacob Eason’s quarterbacking services is coming down to the wire. With Eason reportedly set to make an announcement in the near future, Florida and Georgia are duking it on the recruiting trail like heavyweight fighters.

On Thursday, a week after Eason visited Gainesville, Fla., Gators head coach Jim McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier hopped a plane from Gainesville to Washington to meet with the five-star prospect.

According to Luke Stampini of GatorBait.net, McElwain and Nussmeier’s visit reportedly went very well.

The visit, which lasted deep into the night East Coast time, went well from all reports, with McElwain making a strong impression on Eason yet again. Florida remains optimistic heading into Eason’s official visit to Georgia this weekend.

The Gators have made their pitch, and now it’s a waiting game. Eason will travel east to visit Athens,Ga. and meet with new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart this weekend. He’s been committed to the Bulldogs since July of 2014, and his high school coach believes it will remain that way.

However, don’t count out McElwain, who has proven in just one year with the Gators that he can work recruiting magic in a limited amount of time.
