Jacob Eason reportedly has the Miami Hurricanes on his list of teams to consider following Mark Richt's hiring as the program's new head coach.
December 3, 2015Jacob Eason is one of the best quarterback recruits in the country, but that’s not doing his game any justice.
At 6-foot-5, Eason has the physical characteristics to cause offensive coordinators to drool and defensive coordinators to hang their heads. He’s got a live arm, steady footwork in and out of the pocket, and pin-point accuracy.
He’s the No. 1-rated quarterback by ESPN and Rivals, and 247Sports has him ranked at No. 2 behind Shea Patterson, of Bradenton, Fla.
Eason very easily could be starting next season for whomever he chooses, and the Miami Hurricanes are hoping their new head coach, Mark Richt, can be the bait to land the potentially program-changing quarterback.
According to Matt Shodell of Rivals’ CaneSport.com, Eason has interest in the Hurricanes.
Eason’s quarterback coach, Taylor Barton, told Schodell that Miami is definitely up there after hiring Richt. He committed to Georgia in July of 2014, when Richt was still the head coach of the Bulldogs.
“I think he for sure will look at Miami because he had such a good relationship with Mark,” Burton said. “ I know (Richt) was a major influence in his decision to commit to Georgia. It wasn’t the only reason, but it was a big one. I think he really hit it off with him. One, he liked (Richt’s) system, really liked the style and personality and felt that was the coach he really bought into, what he said and how he did it.”
The Hurricanes already have a commitment from four-star quarterback Jake Allison, from Palmetto, Fla. They also have four quarterbacks on the roster right now, and all are underclassmen.
Sophomore Brad Kaaya has started every game this season for Miami, so it would be less likely for Eason to come in and take the Hurricanes’ starting job than it would be with the Bulldogs or the Florida Gators, whom Eason visited the past two days.
Regardless if Eason chooses Miami or not, the hiring of Richt is already making an impact.
