Four-star quarterback Jack Sears flipped his commitment to the USC Trojans from the Duke Blue Devils.

Clay Helton’s Trojans picked up a huge win over Pac-12 foe Washington this past weekend, and now we’re already seeing the ripple effects on the recruiting trail.

Four-star prospect Jack Sears, the No. 11 quarterback and No. 133 overall player in the 2017 recruiting class, flipped his commitment from the Duke Blue Devils to USC on Sunday night. The Trojans are now ranked No. 14 in the class rankings with 16 total commits, while the Blue Devils sit at No. 43 with 20 total commits.

Sears spoke with Scout and explained why he flipped. He also squashed any talk that Duke had dropped him from its class.

“I did commit to USC earlier today,” Sears said. “I was not dropped. I talked to Duke earlier today to let them know I was decommitting and was going to wait until tomorrow to release my commitment, so Duke could talk to other recruits. It definitely wasn’t an easy decision for me and something I’ve been thinking about for awhile now.”

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound product of San Clemente, California spoke with Helton, and it seems as though Sears and the Trojans have a solid foundation built already.

“USC was first class when I didn’t originally choose them, and I have a lot of respect for Coach Helton. I’m really looking forward to being teammates with Sam [Darnold] and being a part of the USC program with that great tradition going forward,” Sears said.

Darnold has been the key cog behind the Trojans’ revitalized season. USC has gone 6-1 since he took over the starting job, and the redshirt freshman quarterback could certainly help make Sears’ transition easier when the latter gets to campus next fall.
