September 24, 2016The No. 14 Iowa State Cyclones will host the No. 24 Texas Longhorns in Ames, Iowa on Saturday in a Big 12 conference clash.
The Cyclones (17-7, 6-5 Big 12) are struggling as of late, having lost three of their last four games. Their latest game was an overtime loss on the road to Texas Tech Wednesday night. In the extra frame, the Red Raiders took the lead for good on a Keenan Evans three-pointer. Both teams made a pair of free throws the rest of the way, but Texas Tech escaped with an 85-82 upset. Iowa State held the advantage between the two squads in field goal percentage (54.7 percent to 46.8 percent) and in the turnover battle (7-9), but it wasn’t enough. Deonte Burton, who stepped into the starting lineup for Jameel McKay (20 points), led four Iowa State starters in double figures.
The Longhorns (16-8, 7-4 Big 12) saw their four-game winning streak come to an end in heartbreaking fashion as they fell to the Oklahoma Sooners, 63-60 Monday night. With the scored tied at 60, Buddy Hield launched and connected on the game-winning three with 1.3 seconds left on the clock to give Oklahoma the thrilling win. Each team shot an even 40 percent from the field. Texas had a slight edge on the glass (36-34), but Hield’s dagger proved to be the difference maker. Isaiah Taylor and Kendal Yancy were the only Longhorns to finish in double figures, as they scored 19 points and 13 points respectively.
Iowa State and Texas will meet up for the 33rd time on Saturday, with the Longhorns leading the all-time series, 18-14. Texas took the previous meeting between these two teams, 94-91, in overtime back on Jan. 12.
Below is everything you need to know about the game, including the Iowa State vs. Texas online live stream, TV broadcast information, game notes and prediction.
Texas has come on strong as of late and is a Buddy Hield buzzer beater away from five straight wins. It should head into Ames and pull out a tough one against an Iowa State team fading away before our eyes. The Cyclones’ lack of depth is exhausting their star players and making them bow out in the second half of games. Iowa State will lead early, but look for the Longhorns to outlast the Cyclones late and sweep the season series with a big win.
