    Why You Need To Care

The Big Ten is going to be in desperate need of bowl eligible teams to fill all the slots, and it’s going to need Indiana to get hot against the league’s two worst teams. The Hoosiers have been the ultimate hard luck case – okay, maybe No. 2 behind Minnesota – having Michigan beaten, but not being able to come up with a key stop in the double overtime loss. They also had Iowa in trouble, gagged away the loss to Rutgers, and fought Ohio State hard. Throw in the Michigan State loss that was far closer than the final score, and only the 29-7 loss to Penn State was truly bad. If this really is a good team, it takes care of Maryland and beats Indiana – even though both games are on the road.

Maryland wasn’t bad against Michigan State, and it came up with a decent game against Wisconsin, but this was a lost season months ago. On a seven-game losing streak, the Terps have this as the final home game, the road trip to Rutgers, and then it’s on to a new era.

    Why Indiana Will Win

Maryland week after week turns the ball over at a historic level. With 35 giveaways and a whopping -19 turnover margin, the Terps manage to kill themselves every single game. How bad is this? They’ve given away the ball 16 times in the last four games, while Indiana has only lost the ball nine times this year and is a +6 turnover margin.

    Why Maryland Will Win

Yeah, the Terps can’t throw the ball, and yeah, when they do, they give it to the other team way too often, but this is the game to start throwing and throwing a lot. The Hoosiers can’t stop anyone’s passing game, giving up 386 yards in three of the last four games including 398 yards to Michigan State and 440 against Michigan with six scores allowed to the Wolverines and four against the Spartans. They have nothing to lose – they have to get the passing attack rolling and offset the interceptions with big plays.

    Player Who Matters

Jordan Howard has played himself into a terrific pro prospect. The former UAB Blazer started out the season hot, got hurt, and now is back roaring with 174 yards and two scores against Iowa, and 238 yards and two touchdowns against the supposedly impenetrable Michigan defense. He might have carried the ball 35 times last week, but he’s got tread on the tires and will be the offense for the last two weeks. Can he carry the team to a bowl game? He’ll give it a shot.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Maryland will play really, really well, and then it’ll turn the ball over. Indiana will be a +3 in turnover margin, and that’ll be enough to overcome yet another shaky day from the defense.
