Indiana vs. Chattanooga picks for the NCAA Tournament's East Region first-round game. Find out who's predicted to win and continue on to the second round.
September 24, 2016Is there a more disrespected team in the NCAA Tournament than Indiana (remember: Monmouth is outside of the tournament, else they’d hold the mantle). Indiana wins the Big Ten’s regular season crown and then falls on a buzzer beater three-pointer to a hungry Michigan club, and what’s their fate: a No. 5 seed. Bwah bwah.
After such a wonderful season, it’s a slap in the face to what Tom Crean has put together in Bloomington. His team is rife with veteran leadership – most pointedly at the point guard position with Yogi Ferrell. Beyond the dreaded 5-12 matchup, a second-round game against Kentucky likely looms. Bummer for Hoosier Daddy.
In terms of the Mocs, Chattanooga is no pushover. They beat Georgia to open the season, later took down Illinois and even felled Dayton. Oh yeah, and they hung 125 on the Citadel in an absolutely commanding performance. This team has played up to Power 5 talent and doesn’t shrink in under the big lights.
Regarding the Indiana vs. Chattanooga picks, here’s what the Campus Insiders experts have come up with.
I really, really want to pick Chattanooga in the first round, but IU will have just enough pop on offense to survive to get to the second round showdown with Kentucky. That’s where the fun will end.
Tom Crean has perhaps his best Hoosiers team yet. Can they finally break through to the Elite 8 or further? They’ll break through to at least the second round with a win over Chattanooga.
MY HOOSIERS! THEY WIN, AND THEY WIN CONVINCINGLY.
Chattanooga will give IU fits, but the Hoosiers’ perimeter shooting will be too much for the Mocs to handle.
Indiana lives and dies by the long ball. The long ball will be on in the first round, and even if it’s not, Indiana will have enough juice to get by Chattanooga.
