    Why You Need To Care

The Hoosiers are 4-2, yes, but their only two losses were to Wake Forest and UNLV. Losing two of the last three may seem like a big deal right now, but it’s no reason to worry if you’re a Hoosiers fan. Aside from those, Tom Crean’s guys have topped Eastern Illinois, Austin Peay, Creighton and St. John’s (N.Y.).

Indiana fell to UNLV because of a perfrect combination of losing the turnover battle and simply not getting as many good looks at the basket.

The Hoosiers are still averaging 84.3 points per game and limiting opposing teams to 69.5 points per game.

Alcorn State, on the other hand, is 0-5 and hoping the losing streak will end soon. Montez Robinson is in his first year as head coach, and things have just not gone as well as he would have liked.

Saturday’s narrow loss to Florida A&M was the closest the Braves have been to winning a game so far. For a team that hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since the 2001-02 season, Alcorn State is looking to take away as many positives as possible from this one.

    Why Indiana Will Win

The Hoosiers are 8th in the country in field goal percentage (52.7), 15th in assists (111), 13th in total three-point field goals made (64), 23rd in steals (52), and 16th in three-point field goal percentage (42.7). Despite the losses, they’re playing a high level of basketball right now, and they’ll control the perimeter on both ends of the court to take this one.

    Why Alcorn State Will Win

Look, there is no reason Alcorn State should hang around in this game. Indiana is simply better all around. But if it’s going to happen, the Braves have to push the Hoosiers off the three-point line. Close out, move their feet and rotate. Force Indiana to take contested threes, and that might lead to some transition buckets. Alcorn State will have to keep Indiana off the foul line, too, and knock down some key triples to win this one.

    Players Who Matter

Yogi Ferrell is the man with a plan for Crean’s team. The senior guard is leading the team with 15.3 points per game, but he’s been doing it all this season. Ferrell is also averaging 6.5 rebounds and 7 assists per game. Thomas Bryant will also have to step up. The freshman center is playing well with 12.2 points per game, but he can’t continue to leave points at the free throw line. He’s shooting 59.3 percent from the charity stripe. Bryant needs to improve.

Alcorn State does have three players averaging double-digit points: Marquis Vance, Patrick Onwenu and Reginald Johnson. The trio of forwards is averaging a combined 33 points per game. But Johnson is the only one of the three who shoots better than 40 percent from the field. They’ll all need to be efficient in this one to pull it out.

    What’s Going To Happen?

Ferrell is going to happen. He may not get super close to a triple-double, but he’ll definitely stuff his stat line. Through him, Indiana will control the outside and keep the Braves honest with the three ball. When Alcorn State over-pursues on the close out, the Hoosiers will take the Braves off the dribble and have their way offensively.
