Wide receiver Samuel Oshodi remains uncommitted. But the Class of 2018 product has Illinois atop his list of interested schools.
April 8, 2017Wide receiver Samuel Oshodi remains uncommitted. But the Class of 2018 product has Illinois atop his list of interested schools.
After landing a commitment from three-star quarterback Coran Taylor on Monday, which was its first pledge in the Class of 2018, Illinois could be on the verge of giving Taylor a play-making wide receiver to work with on future offenses.
Just a day after the Fighting Illini extended an offer, wide receiver Samuel Oshodi said that they are the leader for his pledge. The 5-foot-11, 160-pounder recently transferred to Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) for his senior year.
Oshodi holds offers from Oregon, South Florida and UCF in addition to the Illini. Minnesota and FAU have also shown interest.
“Illinois [leads],” Oshodi said. “They have been showing the most interest. I’ve always liked the school in general for football and education, but the coaching staff is great and they treat me like family.
“I would fit into their offense well, and I’ll also have a chance to prove myself as a freshman up there.”
While Lovie Smith and his staff have to be intrigued by Oshodi’s comments, Oregon has been a major player in the Sunshine State on the recruiting trail. New head coach Willie Taggart and his staff would love to be able to add a player of Oshodi’s caliber.
“Oregon is another school I really like,” Oshodi said. “Their offense would fit me well, and they are a school I’ve always liked watching.”
While he has not scheduled any visits, Oshodi plans to visit Illinois and USF over the summer.
