    Houston vs. Tulsa Game Preview

    When: Saturday, October 15 – 7:00 p.m. ET
    Where: TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
    TV Broadcast: ESPN2

Houston’s dream of a perfect season and crashing the College Football Playoff is over, as the Cougars were upset by Navy 46-40 on Saturday. Three turnovers by quarterback Greg Ward Jr. hurt the Cougars chances, as did not being able to slow down the Midshipmen’s rushing attack.

Tulsa is coming in hot after three wins in a row, including a 43-40 shootout win over SMU this past Saturday. The run game pounded the Mustangs for 315 yards and four touchdowns, and will now look to do the same to the Cougars.

    What To Know About Houston

How does Houston respond after having its dreams crushed? Sure, playing for the conference title and a big bowl game should be reason enough to be fired up, but this team had more on its mind. The talent on offense with Ward and company is there, and the return of kick returner Brandon Wilson will give the Cougars some pop on special teams. Now, they have to get over the loss and play for themselves.

    What to Know About Tulsa

Houston couldn’t stop Navy on the ground, so Tulsa will probably have the same idea: run the ball and run it again until the Cougars prove they can keep you from moving the ball. Both D’Angelo Brewer (182 yards) and James Flanders (132) pounded the Mustangs last week and will look to continue that. Quarterback Dane Evans can beat you with his arm as well, but his accuracy is off at times.

Offense: Houston. Ward and the offense will be just fine. They did score 40 points in the loss.

Defense: Houston. Giving up 300 rushing yards to Navy is not good, but when all the team does is run the ball, you are bound to give up some yards.

Special Teams: Houston. The return of Wilson as returner will light some fire in the Cougars.

Coaching: Houston. Did Tom Herman’s Q-rating go down after the upset loss?

Intangibles: Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane are quietly 4-1 on the season. They are making a run at a AAC championship.

    Matchup To Watch

Tulsa rushing attack vs. Houston defense

I’m repeating myself, but Tulsa loves to run the ball (seventh in the nation in rushing attempts per game) and Houston wasn’t good at stopping it last week. If the Golden Hurricane can get the ground game working, this could be an extremely close contest.

    Houston vs. Tulsa Prediction

Okay, Coach Herman. Now that your team has lost and maybe a little focus is off, how will you get your team to respond? That will say a lot about how good of a coach he really is. Tulsa will have some success early on with the run and play-action pass, but Houston will come out of a sluggish start and end up running away with this game in the second half. The Cougars get back on track and will turn their eyes toward running the table the rest of the season.

Houston vs. Tulsa Score Prediction: Houston 48, Tulsa 27
