Report: Houston Hires Derek Chang As Director Of Recruiting

Houston has hired Derek Chang as its Director of Recruiting, according to a report from SI's Pete Thamel.

    March 5, 2016

Tom Herman tied a bow on an incredible first season with the Houston Cougars by knocking off powerhouse Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Herman’s success made him the hottest coaching comodity in the nation, but he turned down any and all opportunities and is now working on taking the next step with the Houston program.

Herman hired Derek Chang, formerly with Ohio State, as the Cougars’ new Director of Recruiting this week.

“Houston football is hiring Derek Chang as its Director of Recruiting,” Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel tweeted.

Houston finished with the No. 51 recruiting class in the 2016 Scout rankings. The Cougars pulled in 20 total commits, including one 5-star and two 4-star prospects. Chang will now be in charge of helping the program build off that success.

“Wanted head strength coach position but this is probably better fit,” Chang tweeted in reply to Thamel’s news, giving an insight into his lively personality which is so crucial in today’s recruiting world.
