November 27, 2015The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will welcome the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks to Honolulu on Saturday.
The Rainbow Warriors (2-10, 0-8 MW) are in desperate need of a win having lost nine straight games. Last time out, Hawaii was handed a 42-23 loss by the San Jose State Spartans. The Spartans jumped out to a 35-0 lead at halftime and never waivered despite a late push by the Rainbow Warriors. Hawaii could not stop Kenny Potter, who finished with 366 total yards and accounted for San Jose State’s first five touchdowns. Tyler Earvin was also a force to be reckoned with, carrying the ball 20 times for 114 yards and a score. After a slow start, Hawaii countered with strong performances by Ikaika Woolsey (13-of-25, 202 yards, 2 TD) and Paul Harris (28 car, 179 yards, TD), but they weren’t enough.
The Warhawks (1-10, 0-7 Sun Belt), like the Rainbow Warriors, have also lost nine straight. Their latest defeat was a 16-3 loss to Texas State last week. This one was knotted up at three after the first quarter, but the Bobcats went ahead on a 20-yard pass from Tyler Jones to Lawrence White and that would be all they needed. Louisiana-Monroe couldn’t get anything to go right offensively as they were limited to 181 yards, committed two turnovers, and converted just once on third down.
Saturday’s game will be just the second meeting between these two programs. The first was back in 1997 as Louisiana-Monroe edged out Hawaii, 23-20, in overtime.
