    There’s trouble in Athens.

On Saturday evening at 10:05 p.m. local time, Georgia wide receiver Riley Ridley was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, as reported by Macon.com.

The rising sophomore was released early Sunday morning on $1,000 bond, and he’ll be forced to serve a mandatory one-game suspension during the 2017 college football season, which is a rule stated in the University of Georgia student-athlete handbook in reference to misdemeanors.

The younger brother of Alabama star wide receiver Calvin Ridley caught 12 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns during his true freshman season last year.

Ridley turned down the opportunity to play with his older brother and the Crimson Tide when he was a highly-touted prospect in the 2016 recruiting class. He held additional offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee to join the Bulldogs, who ended up with the No. 10 class in the country.

Georgia’s first game of the 2017 season will be against Appalachian State in Athens on Sept. 2. It’s likely Ridley will serve his suspension against the Mountaineers, as the Bulldogs will travel to South Bend a week later for a nationally televised game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Ridley will certainly be needed.

With Isaiah McKenzie having declared for the 2017 NFL Draft, Ridley’s role should be expanded next season, as young signal-caller Jacob Eason will need as many weapons as he can get.
