Georgia Bulldogs Trying To Flip Aaron Sterling From Alabama

The Georgia Bulldogs and new head coach Kirby Smart are trying to flip Aaron Sterling of Stone Mountain, Ga. from Alabama.

Aaron Sterling has been committed to Alabama since last December, but Kirby Smart is on the prowl.

Kirby Smart is not shying away from head-to-head competition with his long-time mentor, Nick Saban. He’s been on the job a mere three months but has already beaten out Saban for several recruits.

And now he’s after another – 3-star defensive end Aaron Sterling.

The Stone Mountain, Ga. prospect is firmly committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide, having made his decision known this past Christmas Day, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t thought about playing for his home-state Bulldogs.

“A lot of the people in my class that stay in Georgia are committed to Georgia,” Sterling told Chris Kirschner of SEC Country. “It makes you wonder like, ‘Ah, I just want to go play with my friends.’ There’s also a business side to this, too, and you have to see where you fit for yourself.”

Smart offered Sterling earlier in February when he was making a visit to Georgia.

“Coach Smart offered me and it surprised me,” Sterling told Sout’s Chad Simmons. “When we talked, he told me that he liked my film, and that he needed pass rushers like me.”

“I have some thinking to do. I am still committed to Alabama, but I am open, and I am going to take visits to other schools.”

While he continues to fully weigh his options, Sterling told Kirschner that it would “take a pretty good amount” for him to decommit from the Crimson Tide.

The comforting news for Alabama fans is that the Crimson Tide appear to still have the lead right now. The unsettling news is that Smart has proved more than capable of trading blows with Saban – see recent flip Jake Fromm, a top 100 player – and is on the other end of the rope tugging like a man possessed to take Georgia football to new heights.
