George Godsey is reportedly "expected to interview" with Alabama regarding the open offensive coordinator position.
February 9, 2017George Godsey is reportedly “expected to interview” with Alabama regarding the Crimson Tide’s open offensive coordinator position.
For the second time in a span of two months, Nick Saban has been tasked with filling a vacant offensive coordinator position on his staff. Several names have popped up as successors for Steve Sarkisian, who coached just one game as the Tide’s OC before bolting for the same position with the Atlanta Falcons, one of which is George Godsey.
Godsey, who was an assistant at UCF before jumping into the NFL ranks with the New England Patriots and then the Houston Texans, was “expected to interview” on Wednesday with Alabama, according to BamaOnLine.com. He started his coaching career in the high school ranks at The Lovett School in Atlanta, Georgia in 2003.
Godsey was the Texans’ offensive coordinator from 2015-16, his only coaching stint as an OC. He was Houston’s quarterbacks coach in 2014.
Other names that have been attached to the job since Sarkisian’s departure are current Alabama co-offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich, and former San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly, however, is reportedly not interested in the opening.
Out of all potential candidates, Godsey’s name has gained the most traction, however nothing has been confirmed regarding him or the search.
