FSU vs. Notre Dame prediction and game preview. The Seminoles try to sweep the season series and win a fourth straight game when they visit the Fighting Irish on Saturday night.

FSU vs. Notre Dame Game Preview

    When: Saturday, Feb. 11 – 6 p.m. ET
Where: Joyce Center, South Bend, Ind.
    TV Broadcast: ESPN

Florida State went through a rough patch in the second half of January, losing three of its final five games of the month and ending it with back-to-back defeats to Georgia Tech and Syracuse. But the Seminoles have gotten back on track with three straight blowout victories since, beating Miami, Clemson and N.C. State by an average of 30 points.

Dwayne Bacon continues to lead FSU and is averaging 21 points during the winning streak, including a career high-tying 29 against Clemson. Freshman Jonathan Isaac again showed why he’s a likely lottery pick this summer with 21 points and seven rebounds against N.C. State.

Isaac, though, had his best game of his short career in the first meeting with the Irish, finishing with season highs of 23 points and seven blocks while adding 10 rebounds in an 83-80 victory Jan. 18. His performance was so dominant that Notre Dame still couldn’t pull out the victory despite shooting an astounding 15 of 21 from 3-point range.

That defeat began an Irish stretch of dropping five of six games, including a four-game skid they snapped with Tuesday’s 88-81 win over Wake Forest. They improved to 18-7 and 7-5 in the ACC, but most importantly their offense got back on track with their most points since scoring a season-high 107 on Dec. 4. Bonzie Colson had season highs of 27 points and 16 rebounds for his 15th double-double, and he’ll need another big effort against the Seminoles.

    FSU Wins If …

… it defends the 3-point line. Let’s be honest, the Seminoles aren’t going to get away with allowing the Irish to shoot 71.4 percent from deep again. Matt Farrell, V.J. Beachem and Steve Vasturia are Notre Dame’s top deep threats, and the FSU perimeter defense needs to be spot on and track those shooters.

    Notre Dame Wins If …

… Isaac doesn’t go off again. The 6-foot-10 monster down low torched the Irish last time and isn’t showing signs of slowing down. Isaac’s two-point, five-rebound effort against Clemson came on only four shots in 19 minutes because coach Leonard Hamilton found no reason to use him much in the 48-point blowout. If Notre Dame can’t contain Isaac down low, it’s going to be a long evening for the Irish.

    Matchup To Watch

    Colsen vs. Isaac

Colson is giving five inches to Isaac while Beachem is 6-8, but Beachem plays the perimeter more and isn’t much of a rebounder. Colson is the one fighting in the paint, and he didn’t fare well against Isaac in the first meeting while finishing with nine points and eight rebounds. Not only will Colson have to do a better job of keeping Isaac off the boards, he’ll have to add more production at the offensive end.

    FSU vs. Notre Dame Prediction

Florida State has the matchups in their favor. The Irish might start hot with the home crowd behind them, but they’ll fizzle out as Bacon and Isaac give the Seminoles a final push on their way to a road win.
