Leonard Hamilton and the No. 15 Seminoles (23-7, 11-6 ACC) could not contain Duke freshman guard Frank Jackson in their 75-70 loss to the Blue Devils in Durham on Tuesday night. Despite being one of the longest and most athletic teams in the country, FSU had trouble containing Jackson, who scored a season-best 22 points. Amile Jefferson added 14 points and 11 rebounds in his final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Meanwhile, Jim Larrañaga and the No. 25 Hurricanes (20-9, 10-7) are coming off of a 66-61 loss to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Monday night. Ty Outlaw, who has picked up the bulk of the minutes since Chris Clarke was lost for the season with a knee injury, continued his strong play with a career-high 24 points for the Hokies. Outlaw, who is averaging 14 points per game and shooting 69 percent from the floor in Clarke’s absence, set a school record with eight 3-pointers.

These teams met back on Feb. 1 in Coral Gables, a game that saw ‘Noles freshman Jonathan Isaac score 15 points and help hold the Hurricanes scoreless for more than six minutes in the second half en route to a 75-57 win. With the win, the ‘Noles snapped a streak of three consecutive losses against the ‘Canes.

    FSU Wins If …

… The Seminoles shoot as well from the floor as they did in the first game against the Hurricanes. Hamilton’s squad shot 52 percent and went 14 of 15 from the free throw line in the previous matchup. FSU outscored the ‘Canes in the second half, 44-23.

Star sophomore guard Dwayne Bacon came into the Duke game struggling, as the team’s leading scorer endured five straight games in which he shot 40 percent or worse from the field. However, in the loss to the Blue Devils, Bacon went 6-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-4 from downtown en route to 19 points. He needs to take more than nine shots in a game, but it was good to see him get out of his slump heading into the regular-season finale.

    Miami Wins If …

… The Hurricanes get a strong performance from freshman Bruce Brown, who had 17 points to lead the ‘Canes in the first meeting. He was held to just eight points in the recent loss to Virginia Tech, connecting on just 1-of-5 3-point shots. So he’ll be looking to bounce back from that effort.

The ‘Canes also need to be much more efficient and productive from 3-point land. They went 2 of 11 from downtown in the first meeting. Overall, the ‘Canes found it difficult finding room against the tall, athletic and versatile ‘Noles defense. And in the loss to the Hokies, Miami was just 7-of-21 from downtown.

    Isaac vs. Miami’s defenders

Isaac did a little bit of everything in the first meeting between these teams. He went 5-of-7 shooting with seven rebounds and three steals in 25 minutes. He’s a versatile player who can score at the rim, get to the free-throw line and connect from 3-point land. He plays his best when he is attacking the rim and being aggressive. Miami’s defense is very good, but Isaac is tough to guard because of his versatility.

    FSU vs. Miami Prediction

Miami is looking to return the favor on the road after being beaten in Coral Gables by the Seminoles. The problem is that Hamilton’s squad is going to be salty coming off of its setback to Duke, and this is a team that loves to play at home. FSU gets the job done in Tally.
