March 11, 2016The No. 2 seed Fresno State Bulldogs will battle the No. 6 Colorado State Rams on Friday in the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas.
The Bulldogs (23-9, 13-5 MW) advanced to the semifinals with a 95-82 win over UNLV Thursday night. Fresno State locked up the win after extending its lead to double digits with less than two minutes to play. The Bulldogs were plus-seven in rebounding, forced 14 turnovers and shot an impressive 49.3 percent from the field. Marvelle Harris finished with 16 points, but it was Julien Lewis who was the star. The senior had a team-high 27 points and eight rebounds in 38 minutes to pace the Fresno State in the victory.
The Rams (18-15, 8-10 MW) downed Boise State Broncos, 88-81, in Wednesday’s quarterfinal matchup to advance to the semifinals. Led by Antwan Scott, the Rams ended the game on a 9-2 run to put the Broncos away for good. The keys to Colorado State’s success was good three-point shooting (13-of-29, 44.8 percent)and getting to the charity stripe 29 times. The dynamic backcourt of Scott (23) and John Gillon (20) each turned in 20-point performances and combined for seven of the Rams’ 13 three-pointers.
The Rams hope to even the season series after the Bulldogs took the only meeting this season 87-73 back on Mar. 2.

It’s Harris’ turn to have his breakout game of the Mountain West Tournament. He had a nice game against UNLV, but there will be a time where his team will need the conference Player of the Year and he’ll perform. In a big way.
