February 6, 2019The nation’s top uncommitted linebacker announced his college decision on National Signing Day and signed his letter of intent to Tennessee. Henry To’oto’o, the No. 44 prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings and the No. 3 outside linebacker recruit in the country, chose the Volunteers over Alabama, Utah, USC and Washington, among others.
The Concord, California native will leave the West Coast to play in the SEC. The Crimson Tide were the favorites to land To’oto’o earlier in the week, but the Volunteers gained steam in his recruitment as National Signing Day approached.
On Monday, roughly two-thirds of the 247Sports Crystal Ball voters on To’oto’o’s profile predicted the linebacker would choose Alabama, but Tennessee was the favorite at the time of his commitment.
He used his final official visit to go to Alabama on Jan. 25, following visits to Tennessee (Jan. 11), Utah (Dec. 14) and Washington (Sept. 29). To’oto’o played in both the All-American Bowl and Polynesian Bowl.
247Sports National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman compares To’oto’o to New Orleans Saints linebacker Manti Te’o and he projects To’oto’o as a future second-round NFL Draft pick.
“Athletic linebacker who can play either inside or outside,” Huffman wrote of To’oto’o.
To’oto’o is listed at 6-2 and 230 pounds.
He joins five-star offensive tackle Wanya Morris as a headliner in Tennessee’s top-20 recruiting class. The Volunteers’ class ranked No. 16 nationally on Wednesday afternoon, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
