March 9, 2017Former Clemson offensive tackle Jake Fruhmorgen has decided to transfer to Florida, choosing the Gators over SEC rival LSU.
The Florida offensive line will welcome a proven tackle, as former Clemson Tiger Jake Fruhmorgen has decided to join the Gators.
The 6’6, 315 pound Fruhmorgen started eight games for the eventual national champion Tigers before injuring his shoulder, which he is still rehabbing. He would miss the rest of the season, including the College Football Playoff, while being away from the team due to dealing with personal matters that were never disclosed.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Fruhmorgen will have to sit out the 2017 season and will have two years left of eligibility beginning in 2018.
Fruhmorgen chose the Gators over LSU due to wanting to play closer to home, with him being from Tampa, and took a visit to Gainesville in February to meet with head coach Jim McElwain and his staff.
“They’re definitely successful,” Fruhmorgen said. “Obviously Coach Mac has brought in a good coaching staff, good players. They’re doing well. I’ve always watched the Gators – even at Clemson.”
Fruhmorgen, which in German means “early morning,” also got a chance to meet with Brad Davis, the Gators new offensive line coach.
“He’s great, really enthusiastic,” Fruhmorgen said. “He’s very forward with you and very honest with you. He’s a good, smart guy, so I liked him a lot.”
