Former Alabama Staffer Charlie Weis Jr. Leaves Lane Kiffin For Steve Sarkisian, Atlanta

Alabama has lost yet another staff member, this time in Charlie Weis Jr., who will join Steve Sarkisian at the Atlanta Falcons instead of joining Lane Kiffin at FAU.

Former Alabama staffer Charlie Weis Jr. will join Steve Sarkisian and the Atlanta Falcons instead of Lane Kiffin and the FAU Owls.

Charlie Weis Jr. has bolted one former Alabama offensive coordinator for another.

Weis is set to join Steve Sarkisian with the Atlanta Falcons, where he will work as an offensive assistant. Sarkisian surprisingly bolted from Tuscaloosa to Atlanta earlier in February for the offensive coordinator job.

Weis served as an offensive analyst the last two seasons under Nick Saban.

Interestingly, Weis was expected to follow Lane Kiffin to Florida Atlantic as the tight ends coach. Kiffin, who spent three years as the offensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, was dismissed of his duties the week leading up to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, a 35-31 Alabama loss to Clemson.

According to Kiffin, Weis had signed a contract with FAU.

Weis joins Justin Dickens and Freddie Roach as members of the staff that have left the program this week. Dickens had served as the director of football operations, while Roach, who was the Crimson Tide’s director of player development, left to become the defensive coach at Ole Miss under Hugh Freeze.

Alabama has yet to hire an offensive coordinator to replace both Kiffin and Sarkisian, but has reportedly zeroed in on New England Patriots tight ends coach Brian Daboll as its top target.
