March 9, 2016Florida State football spring practice is here. Indulge in the storylines that matter, what’s the big deal, what to worry about, and what’s all set.
The Noles were down by their lofty standards in 2015, a three-loss season that the program believes was a mere pause in the climb back up the mountain. Florida State traveled sideways in the second half, capped by a listless loss to Houston in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
However, an ample supply of returning talent coupled with a succession of dynamite recruiting classes offers belief that FSU can wrest control of the ACC away from reigning champ Clemson. A top priority will be to settle on a quarterback, especially since the Tigers are set at the position with Deshaun Watson returning for his junior season.
The ground game. The Seminoles are flush with potential workhorses, headlined by one of the country’s premier backs, Dalvin Cook. Additionally, in stark contrast to a year ago, Cook and his young complements will be running behind an offensive line welcoming back all of it starters.
The passing game. The Seminoles’ aerial game didn’t frighten opponents in 2015, a marked difference from the days of Jameis Winston. Yes, Sean Maguire or one of the young hurlers must take the next step, but the offense also needs greater consistency from the pass blockers and a receiving corps that gets everyone back.
