Florida Gators and Kirk Callahan have parted ways three weeks before National Signing Day.

Jim McElwain already had his plate full with the stress of trying to land a top-five recruiting class with only three weeks remaining until National Signing Day.

Now, McElwain has to find a new defensive backs coach, too.

Kirk Callahan has been let go by Florida just over a year after being hired onto McElwain’s staff. Callahan was an assistant at Central Florida from 2012 to 2014 before landing the gig with the Gators.

McElwain said in a press release that it’s time to move on.

“We are making a change on our staff. Moving forward, Kirk Callahan will be looking at some other opportunities, and he has a long career ahead of him.”

Callahan has been a dynamic recruiter for Florida, having helped land 5-star offensive tackle Martez Ivey in the 2015 cycle and 4-star cornerback Chauncey Gardner in the 2016 class.

Time is ticking for McElwain, and if he’s going to keep this class together, he needs to find a new defensive backs coach — one who can recruit, too.
