The Florida Gators hired Ryan Smith on Tuesday from Alabama in a quality control capacity.
March 15, 2016The Florida Gators hired Alabama offensive analyst Ryan Smith as a quality control coach on Tuesday.
On the same day Nick Saban added a new offensive analyst to Alabama’s staff, his former offensive coordinator, Jim McElwain, plucked an offensive analyst away from him, albeit in a different role.
According to CoachingSearch.com, McElwain hired Ryan Smith in a quality control capacity for the Florida Gators. Smith worked under Saban as both an offensive analyst and on the recruiting front during the 2015 season.
The transition for Smith shouldn’t present much of a challenge. He is more than familiar with Gainesville and the University of Florida having received his head coaching start a mile down the road from UF’s campus at Gainesville High School.
The news comes just after the start of spring practice. Florida kicked things off last week and will wrap up on the night of Friday, April 16 with the annual Orange & Blue Debut. From the sound of McElwain, the spring’s biggest question mark, the quarterback competition, is progressing nicely.
