February 12, 2017A Florida Gators football recruiting update for the week of February 12, 2017. Jim McElwain’s team is looking to get a jump on the 2018 recruiting class.
The 2018 recruiting class is starting to pick up and gain momentum. Jim McElwain’s Gators had plenty of top-notch prospects on campus in Gainesville this past weekend for Florida’s junior day.
Among that group of recruits were 5-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr. and 4-star wide receiver Anthony Schwartz. Both attend American Heritage High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and are former teammates of Tedarrell Slaton, Marco Wilson and James Houston IV, who signed with the Gators in the 2017 recruiting class.
Surtain, as you could have guessed, is the son of former Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Patrick Surtain. LSU is the favorite in the recruitment of the country’s No. 1 cornerback and No. 3 overall player, but Florida won’t go away easily.
Five-star cornerback Tyreke Johnson was also on campus, and his visit seemed to have gone as well as it could have gone.
Another name to watch out for is Sevyn Banks. The 3-star defensive back is coming off of a torn ACL that ended his junior season early. But he’s the younger brother of current Florida safety Marcell Harris, and he could be a key member of the Gators’ 2018 class if they can get him on board.
