December 19, 2018LSU is projected to have a top-five recruiting class in 2019 thanks to the three five-star commitments it received prior to National Signing Day. Five-star running back John Emery Jr. made his commitment official on National Signing Day as he inked his national letter of intent on Wednesday to join the Tigers next season.
Emery is ranked as the No. 12 prospect and No. 2 running back in the 2019 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’ll join fellow five-star cornerback Derek Stingley and five-star offensive guard Kardell Thomas as part of the Tigers’ recruiting class.
Emery is listed at 5-11 and 206 pounds. He has been timed running a 4.42-second 40-yard dash and a 4.2-second shuttle run. The Destrehan, Louisiana native also has a 37-inch vertical leap.
He committed to LSU on November 13, just days after an unofficial visit to Tennessee and less than a month after de-committing from Georgia. Emery took an official visit to Baton Rouge on December 14 in the days leading up to National Signing Day.
The five-star running back also received offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami (FL), Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas and USC, among others.
247Sports projects Emery to be a future first-round NFL Draft pick and the site compares him to former LSU running back Derrius Guice, a 5-11, 225-pound back who rushed for 3,074 yards in three seasons before getting drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.
Emery is a “densely built back with a powerful, muscled up lower and upper half,” 247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons wrote in the running back’s scouting report.
