The No. 1 recruit from Mississippi will stay in SEC country for college, but he’ll leave the state next year. Five-star inside linebacker Nakobe Dean of Horn Lake, Mississippi announced his commitment to Georgia on Wednesday, when he showed off a Bulldogs shirt live on ESPN and later signed his national letter of intent.

The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker is ranked as the No. 14 recruit and No. 1 inside linebacker in the 2019 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Georgia and Alabama were believed to be two of the leading contenders for Dean entering National Signing Day, along with Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. He also had scholarship offers from Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Mississippi State and Tennessee, among others.

Dean received visits from members of the Alabama and Ole Miss coaching staffs on December 11. Earlier in the month, Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher visited Dean, and the linebacker also took an official visit to LSU. But he’ll head to the SEC East, rather than the SEC West.

He recorded 175 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles during his senior season at Horn Lake High School, which earned him the Butkus Award.

Dean runs a 4.75-second 40-yard dash and a four-second shuttle run. His vertical leap is 40 inches.

247Sports projects Dean to be a future second-round NFL Draft pick and the site compares him to Minnesota Vikings middle linebacker Eric Kendricks.
