Nothing is over until that ink dries on the National Letter of Intent, football fans. The 2016 recruiting cycle is coming to an end, and there was a major shift in plans for the nation’s No. 21 defensive end. Erick Fowler flipped to Texas from LSU on National Signing Day.

Fowler had been committed to play for Les Miles and the Tigers since June 13, but that all changed when the Longhorns pulled off a key flip to keep the Manor, Texas native in the Lone Star State.

It’s a big move for head coach Charlie Strong, who has to be thrilled to get an edge rusher of Fowler’s caliber.

The 4-star defensive end is the No. 153 overall recruit and will be throwing up the “Hook ’em Horns” for the next several years.

    Player Comparison

    Brian Orakpo OLB/DE

He’s a littler shorter than Brian Orakpo, and probably not as quick off the line, but Erick Fowler shows signs of developing into a version of the former Texas Longhorns edge rusher. Fowler can stand up on the line and beat offensive tackles with his first step, setting up a move inside. He needs work on his technique with his hand in the dirt, but Fowler could project as a productive hybrid edge rusher.
