Four-star defensive tackle Elijah Conliffe committed to Florida on Tuesday, giving Jim McElwain’s Gators 18 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

    Here come the Gators.

After falling outside of the top 30 following 4-star cornerback Elijah Blades’ decommitment, Jim McElwain’s team has strung together four commitments in the past four days.

The latest came on Tuesday when, via Facebook Live, 4-star prospect Elijah Conliffe committed to Florida over Penn State and Tennessee. He also held additional offers from Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and USC, among others.

The Hampton, Virginia native is ranked as the No. 21 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 2 defensive tackle in the state of Virginia. He certainly fills a need for the Gators, as they’re losing defensive tackles Joey Ivie and Caleb Brantley. Rising junior Cece Jefferson is also expected to declare for the NFL Draft following the 2018 season. So, the addition of Conliffe adds a bit of depth on the line.

Conliffe joins 3-star defensive tackle and early enrollee Kyree Campbell as well as 4-star defensive end Zachary Carter as current defensive line commits for Florida.

The Gators are also expected to add 5-star offensive guard Tedarrell Slaton, but he’s expected to make the switch to the other side of the ball and play defensive tackle as well.

As mentioned, Conliffe is the latest of a series of additions to the overall class. On Saturday, Florida added 4-star cornerback Brad Stewart and 3-star linebacker Nick Smith. Then, on Sunday, it flipped 3-star safety Donovan Stiner from Houston.

Now, with Conliffe on board, Florida has 17 total commits in the cycle and moved up from No. 19 to No. 16 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
