Four-star cornerback Elijah Blades committed to Nebraska on National Signing Day, giving the Cornhuskers their 20th commit of the 2017 recruiting class.

One of the last few uncommitted players in the 2017 recruiting class has made it official.

On Wednesday, Mike Riley’s Cornhuskers ended National Signing Day on a positive note when 4-star prospect Elijah Blades committed to Nebraska.

Blades, who’s from Pasadena, California, committed to Florida this past summer but decommitted from the Gators about a week ago after taking an official visit to Lincoln. His home-state USC Trojans were certainly in the mix, but Nebraska has been pushing for Blades’ commitment for awhile now.

He’s ranked as the No. 33 cornerback in the country and the No. 9 cornerback in the state of California. With the addition of Blades, the Cornhuskers now have four California natives in their 2017 class: 4-star quarterback Tristan Gebbia, 4-star wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, Blades and 4-star wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey, who attended Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas but is originally from California.

At 6-foot-3, 170 lbs Blades offers a ton of upside at the cornerback position. He’s a dynamic athlete and can impact a game in all three phases — especially as a kick and punt returner. But as a cornerback, there are flashes of Richard Sherman in Blades’ game because of his length, which disrupts wide receivers when tracking the ball.

Nebraska now has 20 total commits in the cycle and is up to No. 18 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
